Why AIDS Drugs are so toxic

I never thought I would saw the day when a major newspaper would admit that AIDS drugs are "quite toxic", let alone on the front page of the Globe and Mail. Perhaps now people can consider why "nucleoside analog" drugs are so terribly toxic. Hint: review your high school biology where  DNA was illustrated as a chain of four colours of beads - those are the four nucleosides. It is interesting that just this week a woman in Graz, Austria, was sentenced to several months in jail for refusing to give these "quite toxic" drugs to her infant (who has not tested HIV-positive).
